Mission Statement

Tonality is a professional choral ensemble bringing together diverse vocalists to sing a message of peace, unity, and social justice.  Through the composition of the ensemble, the musical genres presented, and the current topics confronted in our performances, we strive to present multiple perspectives to break down barriers and to combat division and exclusivity.  Additionally, through our intention to represent diversity within our ensemble, Tonality dually strives to serve as an example of possibility and excellence to marginalized populations through classical music.

Tonality is a unique choral group in the Los Angeles area that has completed its second full season. In the short time since its inception, Tonality has garnered recognition from such notable persons as Grant Gershon (LA Master Chorale), Morton Lauridson, Shawn Kirchner, Kevin Olusola (Pentatonix) and Micheal Abels (composer for Jordan Peele’s blockbuster hit, Get Out). On the impact of Tonality, Abels said –

“Tonality’s brilliant brand of music-making combines the vocal excellence of a professional choral group with socially-conscious programming and personal reflections to bring the repertoire alive. Part celebration, part call to action, a Tonality concert touches everyone present. Tonality is inspiring the future of choral music.”

Since becoming an official nonprofit organization this year, we are finally able to have a fundrasier for our premiere album titled “Sing About It” and a music video! This album includes highlights from our past season on the topics of gun violence, immigration, and women’s rights. Below you will find more information about what your donation would mean to us, what types of events you can expect from us next season, and what you can receive from us at certain donation levels. Thank you all for your time and consideration!

Next Season

In our upcoming season we will be discussing democracy and the nature of our role in the political process, the stigma of mental illness and how we can support members of that community, plus we will be reprising our concert on the topic of immigration, refugees, and the homeless.

If you are able to assist us in achieving our fundraising goal, your donation will go toward purchasing music for our singers, commissioning new works from composers we work with, both new and returning, and reaching out to more communities in the Los Angeles area.
