I wanted to be a part of a group that was diverse and sang on topics that called people to action.
There are very few groups that are trying to create social change. Each of our concerts has a theme and organizations that are already contributing to that social change. This allows our audience the choice of implementing the principles of social justice in their own lives. As a latino in the group, I want to be able to empower others in my community by showing them that we have a place in the choral world and that diversity is possible.
Sharing the story of my immigrant family and their journey to our country and having an audience member approach me and say that he himself had the same experience. Just knowing that someone felt seen and represented was meaningful.
